UEFA Cup champions Sevilla were unable to retain the title they won last year after losing 3-1 to Champions League winners AC Milan. It was an emotive night for the Andalusian side, all 22 players coming out with shirts bearing the name of Antonio Puerta, who tragically died earlier in the week. Sevilla took an early lead when Renato headed Poulsen's corner past Dida, but the Italians came back with three goals after the restart, Inzaghi levelling the scores when he headed Gattuso's cross in on the far post. Jankulovski volleyed home an impressive second a few minutes later, and Kaká wrapped things up late on when he headed the ball past Palop after the keeper had pushed his spot kick onto the post.
