Champions League, day 3

Good results for Barcelona and Sevilla in the first matches of day three. Frank Rijkaard's side top their group after a 0-0 draw with co-leaders Glasgow Rangers. And Sevilla picked up their second win in a row after beating Steaua Bucharest 2-1. Kanouté and Luis Fabiano got the goals for the Andalusians early on. The following day Robinho led the comeback as Real Madrid recovered from a goal down to beat Olympiacos 4-2. But Valencia are in trouble after a 2-0 defeat at Rosenborg. (24.10.07)

Real Madrid 4 - Olympiacos 2

Real Madrid top their group at the half way stage after beating Olympiacos 4-2. It was an incident packed match, with Raúl opening the scoring in the second minute and Galletti replying in the seventh. The Greek side were left with ten men a few minutes later when Torosidis was sent off, but even so Julio César gave them the lead early in the second half. Two goals from an inspired Robinho turned the game around, even though Van Nistelrooy missed a penalty in between. And after Casillas pulled off a couple of magnificent saves, substitute Balboa wrapped things up with a fourth goal in injury time. (24.10.07)

Rosenborg 2 - Valencia 0

Another blow though for Valencia, who are out of the qualifying spots after losing 2-0 at Rosenborg. The Norwegian side had not won at home in their last ten Champions League games, but they went ahead when Koné beat Cañizares in the eighth minute of the second half, the keeper getting a foot to the ball only to see it trickle over the line. And a few minutes later Riseth headed the second after the defence failed to clear a corner. Despite the defeat the Spanish side are not out of the running, and home wins against Rosenborg and Schalke could still see them through. (24.10.07)

Glasgow Rangers 0 - Barcelona 0

Barcelona are on target for a place in the last 16 after drawing 0-0 at Rangers. Frank Rijkaard's side had most of the possession, but they were unable to break through a well disciplined defence. Messi had a shot cleared off the line by ex Osasuna defender Cuéllar early on, Ronaldinho saw his free kick tipped on to the bar by McGregor, and Puyol almost sneaked in a header close to half time. But gradually they ran out of steam, and Cousin almost won it for the Scottish side near the end. Both teams ended the day on seven points, and are now favourites to go through. (23.10.07)

Sevilla 2 - Steaua Bucharest 1

Sevilla are also on track for the next round after a 2-1 win over Steaua Bucharest. The Andalusians went ahead in the fifth minute when Kanouté headed Diego Capel's cross past Zapata, and Luis Fabiano added a second on a quick counter-attack with just over a quarter of an hour gone. Keita rattled the post with a long shot on the stroke of half time, but the visitors got one back through Petre after the restart. And although Sevilla had things largely under control, in the end they were thankful for the final whistle. (23.10.07)
