Second division - day 11

Málaga are off the top of the table after losing 0-1 to Numancia on Sunday lunchtime. Julio Alvarez got the only goal after the break to take the Soria based side above their rivals. Later in the evening fourth placed Sevilla Atlético were held to a 0-0 draw by an improving Albacete, and Córdoba moved up to sixth with a late 2-1 win over Castellón, veteran striker Javi Moreno heading the winner in the ninetieth minute.

Elsewhere Celta were unable to do more than draw 1-1 with local rivals Racing Ferrol, Okkas's second half strike cancelled out by Charpenet. Real Sociedad also drew 1-1 at Hércules, Rubén Navarro opening the scoring for the locals before Xabi Prieto equalised after the restart. Salamanca though produced their best result of the season, a 4-1 victory over struggling Poli Ejido taking them away from the danger zone, (04.11.07)

Third placed Sporting Gijón lost 2-0 at Gimnàstic on Saturday evening, their second defeat in a row after starting the season unbeaten. Jandro got both goals, the first from the penalty spot midway through the first half and the second ten minutes after the restart. Fifth placed Elche didn't take full advantage though, a 0-0 draw at Granada 74 leaving them still three points adrift of the promotion spots.

Derbies all round in the other three games, with Canary Islanders Tenerife and Las Palmas sharing the points in a 2-2 draw, a good result for the visitors' new coach Juan Manuel Rodríguez who's side came from behind twice. Cádiz climbed out of the relegation spots to the detriment of their neighbours Xerez after a 2-1 victory, thanks in part to two early goals from Abraham Paz, and Alavés beat Eibar 1-0, Toni Moral getting the only goal on the quarter hour mark.
