Spain qualified for the
knock out stage after a last minute victory over Syria in their second group
match. The heavy rain made play difficult in the first half, the only chance
coming when Rochela hit the post, but Juan Santiesteban's side went ahead soon
after the restart when Fran Mérida's speculative effort caught keeper
Madnia off guard. Iago Falqué missed a chance to increase the lead, but
Syria equalised with a Solaiman penalty after the ball hit Alex on the arm, and
De Gea had to make an important save from Tamer soon afterwards. However with
the game already in injury time, Bojan broke away to set up substitute Dani
Aquino for the winning goal. |
