Spain reached the semi-final
of the competition after beating France in the penalty shoot out. Le Tallec
gave France the lead seven minutes in to the second half when he turned
Saivet's cross past De Gea, and the Atlético Madrid keeper made an
important save a few minutes later to prevent the striker from getting a
second. Juan Santiesteban made a double change, and Aquino tested Keita before
Jordi equalised, driving home Iago's cross after the keeper could only push out
a stinging shot from Bojan. De Gea was called upon to make a string of saves as
the game went in to extra time, and Bojan went close a couple of times before
Acapandie missed an open goal in the last second. It was all down to penalties,
and De Gea saved Bourgeois's third kick to take his side through to a meeting
with the winner of the tie between Ghana and Peru. |
