Real Madrid are through to the last sixteen of the competition after beating BATE Borisov 0-1 on a cold night in Belarus. Zenit's draw against Juventus earlier in the evening meant that they could wrap things up with a game to go, and Raúl put them on track when he picked up Drenthe's cross to open the scoring with only seven minutes gone.

With Van Nistelrooy out for the rest of the season and Higuaín also joining Madrid's ever growing injury list, Schuster was forced to give Saviola a run out up front. The Argentinian striker brought a good save out of Veremko later in the first half, and shot over the top when through after the restart.

Bliznyuk fired a couple of efforts wide in the second half, but Raúl could have added to lead when the keeper tipped his shot on to the bar later on. The Spanish side were never really in trouble though, and they join Juventus as the two teams from group H who qualify for the next round.
