Having already assured top spot of group C, Barcelona had nothing to play for other than prize money and pride, and with Real Madrid due to visit the Nou Camp on Saturday Pep Guardiola used the occasion to give a run out to some of his lesser used players. It didn't quite work out though, the Catalans losing 2-3 against Shakhtar Donetsk to end a run of 20 games without a defeat.

The Ukranian side went ahead with virtually their first shot on target, Willian playing the ball across for Gladkiy to poke a shot wide of Jorquera. Hleb and Bojan had gone close before that, and youngster Víctor Vázquez brought a good save out of Pyatov after the restart. But ten minutes in to the second half the visitors went two up after Gladkiy headed in a wide Jadson free kick from just a yard out.

Three minutes later Sylvinho cracked home the goal of the night after picking up a return pass from Keita, and Keita himself tested the keeper again a few minutes later. But Shakhtar struck again, Fernandinho losing his marker to slide the ball in from Rat's cross. Gudjohnsen came on and set up Busquets for his side's second goal, but they were unable to do more.
