Barcelona will be flying the flag alone for La Liga sides after Villarreal were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal on Wednesday. The English side got off to a flying start, with Walcott and Van Persie causing problems for Diego López and his defence before Walcott ran on to a back-heel pass from Cesc Fábregas to chip the keeper in the tenth minute.

Godín was the only one to go close for the visitors, an early volley which Fabianski saved and a header shortly before half time over the bar. But fifteen minutes in to the second half Arsenal went further ahead, Van Persie picking up Cesc's headed pass and slipping the ball through for Adebayor to poke a shot past Diego López.

Things got worse for the visitors ten minutes later when the referee ruled that Capdevila had fouled Walcott inside the area, Eguren getting himself sent off after picking up a second booking for something he said to the official. And Van Persie fired home the spot kick to take his team through to an all-English semi-final with Manchester United.
