Under 17 European qualifiers

Spain finished top of their group after drawing 1-1 with England in their last match. Ginés Meléndez's side had some problems though after Hurst gave their opponents an early lead. And despite having Frimpong and Oshodi sent off, England held on until two minutes from the end, when Fryers turned Golobart's cross in to his own net. (27.10.08)

Spain's under 17 side made sure of a place in the "Elite round" of the 2008/9 European tournament after winning their first two qualifying group games in Tenerife. Ginés Meléndez's side scored six in the first half hour to beat Estonia 6-0 in their first match, and then won 2-0 against Armenía tonight. Spain meet England on Monday in their last fixture, but with two to go through the only thing at stake is who will finish top of the table. (24.10.08)
