Second division - day 13

Xerez stay at the top of the second division after last week's leaders Salamanca were beaten 3-1 by Elche on Sunday. All the goals came after the restart, Niño, Fuster and Saúl putting the game beyond reach of the visitors before Quique Martín scored a late penalty. Elche move out of the relegation spots above Eibar as a result. A win for Rayo Vallecano against next to bottom club Alicante could have taken them back up into the top three, but in the end they had to settle for sixth place after they were held to a 0-0 draw in Madrid.

Real Sociedad are only three points outside of the promotion spots after beating Huesca 1-0. It was not until twenty minutes from the end though that Castillo scored the only goal with an impressive shot from outside of the area to give the Basque side only their second win in ten games. Celta are only a point behind Real though after coming from a goal down to beat Levante 1-3. Dinei scored twice in the second half to extend his side's unbeaten record to ten matches. Elsewhere Alavés climbed away from the danger zone with a 1-0 victory over Girona, Astudillo heading the only goal ten minutes before half time. (23.11.08)

Xerez moved to the top of the second division pending Sunday's games after beating bottom club Sevilla Atlético 1-2. Bermejo and Momo got the goals for the visitors late in the first half, with youngster Hugo getting one back for the home side after the restart. Zaragoza are back up to third after a 3-0 win over Eibar, with Ewerthon opening the scoring in the fourth minute and adding a second on the hour mark, and Ayala wrapping things up later in the second half. Hércules drop out of the promotion spots though after drawing 0-0 with Castellón, who stay just a point behind them in the table.

Tenerife are up to seventh in the table after beating local rivals Las Palmas 0-1. Alfaro ran on to long clearance by keeper Aragoneses to score the only goal on the half hour mark. Down in the lower reaches, Murcia failed to climb out of the bottom four after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Gimnàstic. Jandro gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half but Iván Alonso equalised twenty minutes in to the second half. Córdoba moved away from the danger zone though after a 1-0 victory over Albacete, with Iker Begoña putting through his own net after the interval. (22.11.08)
