Champions League, quarter finals first leg

Barcelona put a foot and a half in the semi-finals after a 4-0 win over Bayern Munich. All the goals came in the first half, with Messi opening the scoring early on and then setting up Eto'o for a second in the twelfth minute. Messi had a penalty appeal turned down before getting on the end of Henry's cross to score his second of the night, and Henry completed the rout on the stroke of half time. (08.04.09)

A valiant performance by Villarreal in their quarter final tie against Arsenal, although in the end the 1-1 scoreline leaves Pellegrini's side with an uphill battle for next week's second leg in London. Marcos Senna gave the home side hope with an early strike past Almunia, but Adebayor equalised with a spectacular overhead kick after Cesc set him up midway through the second half. (07.04.09)
