European Champions League Final

Barcelona 2 - Manchester United 0

Copa, Liga y Champions! To the tune of Queen's "We will rock you" the Barcelona fans celebrated a historic triple in Rome, a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Manchester United confirming that Pep Guardiola's side are currently the best in the world.

True, there were a couple of scares early on, Piqué clearing ahead of Park after Valdés had spilled Cristian Ronaldo's free kick, and Ronaldo just missing the target a couple of minutes later. But as soon as Eto'o picked up Iniesta's pass and ran on past Vidic to open the scoring, Barça were on the road to victory.

Xavi fired a free kick against the post as the Catalans dominated the start of the second half, and with twenty minutes to go Messi closed the debate on whether he knew how to head the ball or not when he steered Xavi's cross past Van der Saar.

Barcelona had added the European title to the league and the cup, the first time a Spanish side had achieved this in the same season, and this could just be start of the rewriting of the record books. (27.05.09)
