Spain are out of the under 21 championship despite beating Finland 2-0 in their last group match. After only picking up one point from their first two games, the only hope was for a win by at least a three goal difference coupled with a victory for England against Germany. However strikes by Torrejón and Pedro León were not enough, and with a draw in the other group game, López Caro's side are on their way home. (22.06.09)

Spain's chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are slim after a 0-2 defeat against England in their second group match. Sergio Asenjo saved a first half penalty from Milner after Javi García fouled the midfielder in the area. But substitutes Campbell and Walcott made the difference in the second half, the former with an opportunist the goal and the latter with a good run to set up Milner for the second.

Spain's first appearance in the under 21 European finals for several years started with a 0-0 draw against Germany. Central defenders Chico and Torrejón had the best chances for López Caro's side, but after that though Germany were on top, so much so that keeper Sergio Asenjo was named man of the match. (15.06.09)
