Spain were held to their second 0-0 draw in a row, and they now have to beat Switzerland in their last group match if they are to progress any further in the competition. Ginés Menéndez's side could not score against the side they beat in last season's final, although they should have won it late on when Pardo's free kick came back off the post and Alex shot the rebound straight at the keeper when it would have been easier to score. In the other group game Switzerland were a surprise 3-1 victors over Italy.
