Real Madrid will have to overturn a tricky 1-0 defeat against Olympique Lyon if they are to progress further in the Champions League this year. Madrid have never been able to score in their visits to Lyon in the past, and once again they were held by a well-organized defence. The French side came close to scoring when Delgado volleyed a shot against the post shortly before half time, and just two minutes after the restart Makoun picked up the ball in midfield and ran on to surprise Casillas with a long shot. Local keeper Lloris had little work to do on a snowy night, and to add to their woes Pellegrini's side will be missing Marcelo and Xabi Alonso for the return leg after both picked up their third bookings of the competition.
