Defending champions Barcelona came away from Stuttgart with a 1-1 draw in their first leg tie, a result which gives them the edge for the return game in three weeks' time. Guardiola's side were under pressure from the start though, and Cacau headed the German team in to the lead from Celozzi's cross midway through the first half. Lehmann was lucky to see his save from Messi's shot roll against the upright however before the break, and soon after the restart Ibrahimovic equalised, beating the keeper at the second attempt after Piqué headed the ball across. A few minutes later Molinaro deflected an Ibrahimovic shot over the bar with his upper arm, but the referee turned down appeals for a penalty.
