Latest transfers

As is now common knowledge, Barcelona completed the swap deal between Ibrahimovic and Eto'o, although they reportedly had to pay out €7 million more than expected after the loan of Hleb fell through. The midfielder preferred to rejoin his old club Stuttgart. Real Madrid signed Arbeloa and are keeping up the push for Xabi Alonso, although they are having some problems offloading the players surplus to requirements. Huntelaar in particular has had offers from Stuttgart, Arsenal and Spurs amongst others, and for example Van der Vaart and Drenthe are still at the Bernabeu despite it being made clear that they could end up out of the final 25 man squad. Elsewhere Málaga have been the most active club over the last few days, Almería's Juanito their tenth signing in the close season. A stark contrast with Xerez, who have only taken on Valencia keeper Renan to date despite losing twelve of their first team this summer. (02.08.09)
