Under 21 European qualifier

Spain 3 - Liechtenstein 1

Spain's under 21 side clocked up their fourth win in five games after beating Liechtenstein 3-1 in Ponferrada, although they made harder work of it than expected. Dani Parejo gave López Caro's team an early lead with a well struck free kick, but although Jeffrén and Ander went close, they were unable to beat Büchel for a second time before the break. With just under an hour gone the visitors scored a surprise equaliser, Hanselmann turning in a wide free kick for his side's first goal in the tournament, but substitute Adrián restored the lead after Fran Mérida's shot came back off the post. And with two minutes to go Capel made sure of the result from the penalty spot after Parejo was fouled in the area. Not the most impressive of wins against the weakest team in the group, but Spain stay in second spot in their table. (02.03.10)
