Europa League, quarter final, second leg

Atlético Madrid 0 - Valencia 0

Atlético Madrid will meet Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Europa League after knocking out Valencia on the away goals rule. The two goals scored in the Mestalla stadium last week were enough in the end to take Quique's side through despite their failing to score this time around. Other than an early effort from Agüero there were virtually no chances for either side in a tactical first half, but two minutes after the restart Forlán just failed to find the target when free on goal Ujfalusi and Raúl García could both have scored after that, and César did well to turn another Forlán shot against the upright with a quarter of an hour to go. The Chés finally woke up however for the last ten minutes, David Villa hitting the underside of the bar and De Gea pulling off two vital saves from headers by substitutes Zigic and David Navarro. But soon after Zigic had a strong penalty appeal turned down, the referee blew the final whistle to keep Atlético on track for a second cup final this season, Rafa Benítez and Fernando Torres permitting!
