Athletic Bilbao have an uphill battle to stay in the Europa League after losing their first leg of their third round qualifier to BSC Young Boys.

The Swiss side were fitter than their opponents having already started their league season, and they took the lead midway through the first half when Gorka could only push out Degen's strong cross in to the path of Doumbia.

Llorente had a chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Iraola was fouled early in the second half, but keeper Wölfli guessed right and saved his spot kick.

The only positive point of the evening for the hosts came when 16 year old Muniain made his first team debut, but unless they can turn things around in Berne next week their European campaign will be already over.
