Athletic Bilbao beat Austria Vienna 3-0 in their opening match of the new Europa League to top their group, Llorente converted an early penalty after the new goal judge ruled that Susatea had been fouled inside the area, and the Spanish international striker scored a second midway through the second half after Susaeta set him up.

Diabang came up against keeper Gorka Iraizoz when the Austrian side did put together a couple of attacks towards the end of the first half. But youngster Muniain wrapped things up after the break following a quick passing move involving Iraola and Etxeberría, who was playing his 500th game for the club. Austria ended with ten men after Suttner picked up a second booking later on.
