Post script. New manager Goiko didn't want to renew his contract, so has moved on to England's Tottenham Hotspur.

10.06. Saved the day against Numancia with a triple save in the last minute of the game to ensure first division football for Rayo next season. Will miss next match.

27.05. Another disaster by the defence as Rayo let in four against Mallorca. Keller stopped it from being more.

20.05. Played in goal at home to Real Madrid. Couldn't hold on to a Roberto Carlos free kick (timed at 123 Kph), and the ball bounced back off his chest to Guti, who scored the only goal of the match.

13.05. Was hit for five as Barcelona returned to form just at the wrong moment for the US keeper. Caught out of position for Rivaldo's goal, but otherwise not to blame for the defeat.

06.05. Played in goal in the 1-1 draw with Deportivo. Could do nothing about the goal but made some good saves, including a spectacular one handed stop from a Pandiani shot.

29.04. Was called up USA for their world cup qualifier against Costa Rica with Friedel on club duty. Kept a clean sheet as his side won 1-0 to almost certainly assure their presence in the finals. Returned in time to play in goal against Racing Santander. Only beaten by a good Arzeno goal, and made some important saves.

22.04. Put in a reasonable performance against Athletic Bilbao, although his team lost 1-2.

15.04. Played again in the match against Málaga which ended 1-1. Kept his side in the game with a string of saves in the second half.

08.04. Fully recovered and kept his place for the game at home to Valencia. However got hit for four goals by an efficient Valencia side.

01.04. Still first choice keeper for the league, and started the match against Valladolid. However got himself concussed in the second half and after playing on for a few minutes was forced to leave the field, being substituted by Lopetegui. As a safety precaution he was kept in a local hospital overnight, but was apparently alright in the morning and was discharged with a clean bill of health.

18.03. Rayo are now in trouble after being knocked out of the UEFA cup midweek and then losing to Oviedo at home by 0-2, the Asturias team's first away win of the season. Keller played in that game, with Lopetegui playing in the UEFA as usual. It remains to be seen what Ramos will do in the goalkeeping position now they only have league matches remaining.

11.03. Kept his place for the league game against Alavés after watching their midweek defeat by the same team from the substitutes' bench. However Rayo fell again, this time by 4-2, and are sliding down the table. Keller was not at fault for any of the goals though.

04.03. Let in two goals as his team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Real Sociedad.

25.02. Sat on the bench for the UEFA cup victory at Bordeaux, and as usual played in the league at Espanyol at the weekend. Could do nothing about the goal by Velamazán, but again made a couple of good saves as they drew 1-1.

18.02. Put in a good performance at Celta in the 1-1 draw, keeping his team in the game in the second half with a series of good saves.

11.02. Despite the hammering last week, kept his place in the team. Did better, and Rayo got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Osasuna. Faced a penalty in the second half, which Iván Rosado put wide.

11.02. Despite the hammering last week, kept his place in the team. Did better, and Rayo got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Osasuna. Faced a penalty in the second half, which Iván Rosado put wide.

04.02. Disastrous game against Zaragoza, letting in six goals. Couldn't do much about most of them though, with his opponents on great form and his defence in tatters.

28.01. Played again in the league defeat against Villarreal. Made some good saves again, but could do nothing about Craioveanu's goal near the end. .

21.01. On the bench for the cup defeat against Atlético Madrid. Played in the league against Las Palmas and gave away a silly goal, kicking the ball straight at Pablo Lago allowing him to score on the rebound. Made up for it partially with a string of good saves though, and the team drew 1-1. Rumoured to be moving on at the end of the season, and Rayo already looking for a replacement.

14.01. Again played in goal in the league against Numancia. Made a couple of good saves and kept a clean sheet. Non-playing substitute in the cup.

07.01. Juande Ramos appears to have switched his ideas, and Keller played in the weekend league match against Mallorca after Lopetegui appeared in the midweek cup tie. Let in two goals in the 2-2 draw with Mallorca.

24.12. Played in goal in the midweek league clash against Real Madrid and got hit for three by Figo, Raúl and company.

17.12. Got another game in the Spanish cup first round, played over one leg this year away at Orotrava in the Canary Isles. The game finished 1-1 after extra time and went to a penalty shoot out. Keller saved the fourth of five kicks, and with an Orotrava player putting another kick wide, Rayo went through to the next round.

10.12. Played in goal as expected against Lokomotiv, and kept another clean sheet.

03.12. Back to substitute again this week. Should play next Thursday in the UEFA cup match at home to Lokomotiv.

26.11. Having seen out the last two games on the subs bench, he came back for the UEFA cup tie with Lokomotiv Moscow. On an icy pitch, with the match played at temperatures of 17 below zero, he managed to keep a clean sheet, saving his side in the last minute pushing a shot against the post.

12.11. Once again came in for the match in Europe, and although his performance was nothing to write home about, Rayo qualified for the next round, so he should at least get a couple more games.

05.11. Juande Ramos gave him his first start in the league against Oviedo midweek. However he let in four goals, not able to do much in the first three, but turning the ball into the net himself for the fourth. Back on the substitute's bench again for the Sunday game.

29.10. Played in goal in the UEFA cup match against Viborg, and kept a clean sheet. Back on the bench again at the weekend though.

22.10. Still on the bench for Rayo. May play in the UEFA cup match on Thursday though.

15.10. Now fully recovered, and went back to play for the USA in their recent World cup qualifier. However unable to get his place back from Lopetegui, and so was on the bench for the Espanyol game.

01.10. Back in the side for the UEFA cup tie against Molde, letting a late goal but otherwise playing fine. Back on the bench though for the league match against Celta, with Lopetegui taking his place.

24.09. Now back in the squad, but with Lopetegui saving penalties and all, Kasey is currently on the subs' bench.

10.09. Having played for the United States in a world cup qualifier, a broken finger prevented him from playing in the first two league matches, and he loses his place to arch-rival Lopetegui.

After much speculation about whether he would leave, Kasey surprised everyone and announced he would see out the last year of his contract. Many clubs in England are interested in signing him for next season, and if he returns he will be eligible for dual nationality, a big plus now that the number of non-EU players is being limited in many competitions. He was first choice keeper in the UEFA cup qualifying round, where he kept clean sheets in the two leg 16-0 rout of Constellació Andorra.
