12.05. Came on early in the second half in the home defeat by Málaga, almost certainly his last match at Montjuic in Espanyol's colours. Has not had a bad season though, scoring six goals and making himself popular with the local fans. Nothing has been decided as to his future, but may stay in Europe, possibly with a French team. Will now go on to the World cup, where he will play for Mexico wearing the number 17 shirt.

05.05. With little chance of him staying on, Paco Flores left him on the bench for the local derby at Barcelona. Made a brief appearance later on in the second half.

28.04. Still no agreement with Cruz Azul, and will probably not stay on next season. Came on for Pacheco again midway through the second half at Valencia. At the time his side were winning, but their opponents scored twice to turn the game around.

21.04. Was replaced by Pacheco for the match against Villarreal, coming on for the last twenty minutes and almost immediately scoring Espanyol's third goal with a header. Another fingernail.

14.04. His good form meant he kept his place at Deportivo La Coruña. However he was replaced again by Pacheco in the second half with his team losing.

07.04. Back in the side for the home game against Celta, scoring the opening goal midway through the first half in their 2-1 victory, his fifth of the season. Interviewed on local television after the game, he apparently explained that he paints his fingernails when he scores goals. He needs five more to have the full set.

31.03. Still no luck with Cruz Azul, and they may try to sell him to someone else to raise funds. Espanyol are already thinking of his replacement, and have signed Maxi Rodríguez. Non-playing substitute in the weekend 2-1 defeat at Mallorca, in which Flores line up with five at the back.

24.03. Flores appears to be alternating Palencia and Pacheco, playing the Mexican away and the Uruguayan at home. Palencia came on for the last 20 minutes in the game against Alavés with his team in the lead, but two late goals from their opponents gave them their second defeat in a row. Looking less likely he will stay next year, and hoping to go back to Mexico next week to talk to his old club.

17.03. Back in the side for the match at Real Sociedad, and once again replaced by Pacheco on the hour mark with the team trailing.

10.03. Replaced by Pacheco for the game against Bilbao, but came on for the last quarter of an hour. Wants to stay at Montjuic and he and the club are still trying to convince Cruz Azul to extend the loan for another season.

03.03.Kept his place for the visit to Tenerife, being replaced by Munteanu midway through the second half with the scores level at 1-1.

24.02. Started the game against Las Palmas in Montjuic, but was taken off at half time to make room for Pacheco. Only had one real scoring chance, which he missed in front of goal.

17.02. Replaced by Pacheco for the game at Osasuna, spending the whole 90 minutes on the substitutes' bench. Negotiations are still going on for his loan to be extended by a year, but Cruz Azul are not budging on their demands for a transfer or nothing.

10.02. Limped off the field with a bruised leg before half time in the game at Rayo, and doubtful for the weekend. Did start though on Sunday's game against Valladolid, being replaced by Pacheco midway through the second half. Has made a good impression both on and off the field, and Espanyol already talking to him about the possibility of staying on for next season. They want another year's loan, but Cruz Azul are holding out for the six million Euros purchase option.

03.02.Played all but the last five minutes in the home victory against Real Madrid, setting up the equalising goal for De Lucas in the first half.

27.01. Started the game at Sevilla alongside Tamudo and Posse, but was replaced on the hour mark by De Lucas with his side trailing.

20.01. Came on ten minutes in to the second half of the match against Betis, replacing De Lucas. Scored the opening goal after a pass from Oscar, but Betis came back to equalise at the end.

13.01. With Tamudo suspended, started the game at Zaragoza up front alongside Posse. Replaced by Aganzo in the second half. Has decided not to play for Mexico in the upcoming Gold Cup between the CONCACAF countries, which is talking place in the USA over the next couple of weeks, so that he can remain with his club.

06.01. Started the game at Málaga, but was replaced by Aganzo ten minutes in to the second half with his team behind.

30.12. Already talking about keeping him on at Espanyol, although they will either have to pay 6 million Euros to buy his rights or negotiate another loan. Player went home to Mexico for Christmas holiday, but has refused to play in a friendly tournament for his country.

23.12. Played in the 2-0 victory against local rivals Barcelona, being replaced by Posse midway through the second half.

16.12. Another start in another unchanged side against Valencia. Scored the opening goal with his knees sliding on to Posse's cross, but after Espanyol threw away a two goal lead he was replaced by Vates 20 minutes from the end.

09.12. Played in an unchanged side at Villarreal, being substituted with 20 minutes to go by Velamazán. Team drew 1-1.

02.12. Played the full 90 minutes in the victory at home to Deportivo. Lined up with Tamudo and Martín Posse, and was unlucky not to score in the second half.

25.11. Indirectly involved in Cuauhtèmoc Blanco's decision to give up Mexican national side. Palencia returned to Spain after playing for Mexico on a direct flight with a first class ticket, Blanco went economy with two stopovers and got very upset. Palencia is trying to persuade him to change his mind. Came on as substitute again at the weekend against Celta.

18.11. Stayed with the Mexican squad, starting in the friendly game against Spain on Wednesday night at Huelva. Substituted in the second half as his manager experimented with new players. Started on the bench for Espanyol's home game with Mallorca, coming on for the last half hour in place of De Lucas.

11.11. On international duty with Mexico, playing against Honduras in the vital World cup qualifier which they won won 3-0, with two from Valladolid's Cuauhtèmoc and another from Palencia.

04.11.Once again second half substitute in the home game against Real Sociedad. Could do little though and his team lost in the end.

28.10. Came on as substitute for Fran with an hour gone against Athletic Bilbao and scored the equalising goal ten minutes later.

21.10. Left out of starting line up for crucial game at home to Tenerife, coming on as substitute for Martín Posse in the second half with the game already won.

14.10. Returned from Mexico and was immediately drafted into the squad for the cup match at Lleida. Came on early in the second half but could do nothing as Espanyol were eliminated from the competition. Started the match at Las Palmas ostensibly on the left of midfield, with Martín Posse and Tamudo up front in an attacking line up, but made little impact as the team lost again.

07.10. Away on international duty with Mexico so could not play either in the midweek or the weekend league games. Played the full 90 minutes in Mexico's World Cup qualifying game against Costa Rica.

30.09. Returned to the side for the match against Rayo and scored the first goal after going close twice. Espanyol won 3-1.

15.09. Mexican international joins on one year loan from Cruz Azul. Expected to play up front behind Tamudo, and started first match, substituted by Aganzo halfway through the second half. However picked up an injury and likely to be out for a couple of weeks.
