Euro 2008

The draw was held today for the qualifying rounds of Euro 2008, the finals of which will be taking place in Austria and Switzerland. Spain were drawn in a group of seven sides, together with Sweden, Denmark, Latvia, Iceland, Northern Ireland and Liechtenstein. Matches will begin at the start of next season once the 2006 World Cup is over. (27.01.06)

A joint candidature from Poland and Ukraine won the bid for the 2012 edition of the competition ahead of Croatia-Hungary and Italy. (18.04.07)

Spain have been drawn in what on paper appears to be an easy group for the finals, with Greece, Sweden and Russia in group D. However Greece and Russia were in their group last time around when they were knocked out, and Sweden already beat them in their qualifying group this time around.
