Sorry if this seems ignorant, but I'm in about two weeks going to get a channel that shows spain soccer in the US and i was wondering is there playoffs, if not how does it work? Thanks

No, it's a straight league system, with everybody playing everybody else home and away and the team topping the table taking the title. There is a cup competition as well, known as the "Copa del Rey". They did experiment with a play off stage about 15 years or so ago, but it didn't really work and they went back to the league sytem.
