Hello there Great site, been visiting for years. I am doing some research on club nicknames, and was wondering if you knew of any good sources. I have the majority of Liga teams, apart from the following: Getafe, Alaves, Sevilla (called Los Palanganas 'the basins' by betis fans I think), Zaragoza (Los Blanquillos, the whites?,) Racing Santander, Cadiz, Malaga, Betis (Los Pepinos, the cucumbers. Because of the colour, or the Sevillian food?). many thanks
This wasn't actually a message to Pichichi, but we thought we would publish it to ask for help from our readers. Can anybody fill the gaps for John?
Add Málaga to your
list....Los Boquerones....named after the local fish!

Getafe's nickname is azulones, which
translates to blue boys i think. Another name is Getafenos.

i can tell john is an english man
who is used to the nicknames that normal english premier teams get, like the
tottenham spurs, the arsenal gunners and the chelsea blue whatevers... but the
fact of the matter is that in spain, teams dont usually have nicknames. Madrid
fans are called los merengues, and the barça fans are called cules, but
other than that, most teams dont have nicknames. Now as for thos enicknames you
got like for zaragoza for example (los blanquillos) that might be a name that a
rival calls the team, but they are not known by that, they are siimply known by
their name. It is not spanish culture to have nicknames. Barça fans
might call madrid fans, fascists but that doesn't mean that is real madrids
nickname. That is all
