The all time highest goal scorer was Athletic Bilbao's Telmo Zarra, who only died a couple of days ago at the age of 85. Grounds around the country had a minute's silence for him. Zarra scored 251 goals from 277 games, a record which will take some beating. In second place is Hugo Sánchez with 234 from 347, followed by Di Stéfano with 227 from 329. For the record Raúl had 175 from 385 games at the beginning of the season, and he is the only player currently active who has a chance of catching him (Eto'o and Fernando Torres permitting).
