Subject: What will happen to Raúl and De la Peña?

Been wondering about 2 famous Spanish players and their chances of getting into 2 squads. Firstly, Raul. Do you feel that when he returns from injury he will be an automatic start for the team? As a Madrid fan I do not want to see this happen as I feel he has been holding the club back over the last few years with his almost guaranteed place. His absence has not affected the club in the least. Secondly, Ivan de la Pena. He is still a joy to watch and as good a creative midfielder as there is in Spain. Will he be in the Spain squad for WC2006?

Hi SOK, sorry not to reply earlier. We actually think that a lay-off is the best thing for Raúl, and hope that he will return with renewed vigour. He has been looking tired in the last couple of seasons, and maybe a rest is what he needed to recharge his batteries. As for De la Peña, Aragonés tends to go with club form, and with Espanyol going through a bad patch he appears to be out of the reckoning at the moment. With a couple of months to go though until the WC squad is announced, there is still time for him to grab one of the last spots.
