Second Division A - Day 4

Sevilla consolidated their position at the top of the second division with a 2-0 win over Lleida, their fourth victory in four games. Olivera and Michel got the goals in the second half, which sent their opponents to the bottom of the division. Last week's co-leaders Jaén stay second despite losing 1-0 to local rivals Córdoba with a second half goal from Espejo. They are on nine points, one ahead of three teams, Levante, Leganés and Recreativo, who all drew away from home against Tenerife (1-1), Salamanca (1-1) and Universidad Las Palmas (0-0) respectively. Levante took the lead against Tenerife through Salillas, the league's top scorer last season, but the Canary Island team equalised in the second half through their new signing, Mexican midfielder Torrado.

Atlético Madrid finally clocked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 victory over Compostela. Salva got a goal in each half to save manager Fernando Zambrano's head, but Roberto was sent off at the end of the first half and Mena injured his knee badly and was rushed off to hospital. Two newly promoted teams, Murcia and Racing Ferrol, got their first victories of the season, Murcia beating Albacete 2-0 and Ferrol winning against the highly fancied Elche by 2-1, with Borja scoring the winner three minutes from time after Serban had equalised a few minutes earlier. A spectacular overhead kick by David Karanka, the only goal of the match, gave Extremadura their first three pointer of the season against Getafe.

The day's other two matches, Eibar against Sporting Gijon and Badajoz against Betis ended goal-less. Betis's new signing Amato was sent off in the dying minutes. All in all it was another low scoring day, with only 15 goals in the eleven matches. Lleida and Universidad Las Palmas have still not got a goal between them in four games, and they share bottom spot on two points. Recreativo Huelva are currently lying third equal on eight points and their goal aggregate stands at two goals for and none against! Jaén have been involved in four 1-0 results (three in favour and one against), and Badajoz have five points with a 1-1 aggregate. Let's hope things pick up soon.
