Deportivo La Coruña are the early leaders after beating Valladolid 4-0 in their first game of the season. The visitors held on until just before half time when Víctor opened the scoring, but in the second half Deportivo added three more in seven minutes through Valerón and then twin strikers Makaay and Diego Tristán. New signings Djorovic and Amavisca started the match for the home side, and Sergio came on later in the game. However Valladolid were not allowed to use their new man Turu Flores, recently signed on loan from Deportivo, under the agreement with the Coruña club.

The result puts an end to Valladolid's recent string of good results at the Riazor stadium, and gives the Deportivo fans hope of challenging once again for the title they let slip last season. Valladolid however look set to struggle again having had to sell some of their key players in the close season, including defenders Heinze and García Calvo, in order to pay the bills. Tote though looks a good signing, and Cuauhtèmoc Blanco played the last 30 minutes having now recovered from his long term injury. With Turu available as from next week, they will be relying heavily on those three to keep them up.
