Celta start the league in joint second place behind their Gallician neighbours Deportivo after defeating a poor Osasuna 0-3 in Pamplona. Catanha headed the first on the half hour mark and Sergio, back in the side after missing most of last season through injury, got the second after the restart. Substitute Jesuli added a third after new boy Boban put him through with a defence splitting pass. Osasuna's new signing from Coventry, Australia's John Aloisi, came on late in the second half with the game already lost. There was bad feeling between the two clubs before the match, with Osasuna accusing Celta of using a legal loophole to snatch keeper Almunia from them in the summer.
