Deportivo kept on to top spot pending Sunday's games with a late victory over Las Palmas. The only goal of the game came from substitute Fran, who picked up a ball around the halfway line and seeing that nobody came to close him down, ran on to shoot wide of Nacho González into the bottom corner of the net. It was a bitter blow for Las Palmas who had defended well throughout, and although Deportivo had most of the play, the Canary side didn't deserve to lose.

This was Deportivo's one thousandth game in the first division, making them the 16th team to reach that target. The win gives them the maximum six points, and sets them up for their Champions League match next Wednesday at Lille. Las Palmas fail to consolidate on their win last week at Mallorca, and more worrying perhaps was the injury to Samways in the first half after a strong tackle by Emerson which may keep him out for the next few games. His place was taken by another of their talented youngsters Alberto, who joined Angel, Jorge and Carmelo in one of the youngest sides in the league.
