Celta held on to top spot in the league despite being held to a score-less draw by Real Sociedad. The game was played at Osasuna's El Sadar ground as the Anoeta stadium was closed following crowd trouble last season, but some 15,000 fans still made the relatively easy journey to Pamplona to support their side. Celta dominated the game from the start, and Catanha should have given them the lead when presented with a free header in front of goal in the first half.

Idiakez almost sneaked a goal though after the break when Cavallero misread his free kick, the ball hitting the post and bouncing across the goal before going out of play. Real only came in to the game though in the last few minutes, and Cavallero had to be at his best to keep his third clean sheet in a row. The result gives John Toshack's side their first point of the season although they are still in the relegation positions, just above the owners of the ground they played on today, Osasuna.
