The Gallician derby between the league's top two teams Deportivo and Celta ended all square. It was a passionate game with hard tackles from both sides, and the match was overshadowed by a horrendous injury to Depor's Manuel Pablo, who was rushed to hospital with a badly broken leg after a tackle from Giovanella in the second half. The Spanish international full back is likely to be out for six months at least, and may even miss the World Cup next summer. Deportivo could have scored on two or three occasions early on, with Berizzo and then Cáceres clearing shots from Diego Tristán off the goal line and Cavallero saving well from Makaay. But then Celta took control, and Berizzo headed them in to the lead from Mostovoi's free kick.

Edú made it two halfway through the second half, taking advantage of the gap left by Manuel Pablo's absence to round Scaloni and beat Molina with a low shot. Depor appeared to be beaten, but this was the team that came back to beat Manchester United a few days ago, and another capacity crowd saw them repeat the act with two late goals. The first came from Fran's free kick, Naybet heading across and the ball ricocheting off a defender, probably Berizzo or Juanfran. Then ten minutes later Berizzo cut off Scaloni's charge in the penalty area and subsititue Pandiani gleefully drove the penalty home to make it all square. Celta lose top spot as a result and Depor drop out of the top four, but both showed enough glimpses of quality here to ensure that they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
