Espanyol moved safely up to midtable with their second victory in a row and their first in the Nuevo Zorilla stadium for eight years. The return of their first line forwards has been a turning point, and although Palencia was away on international duty with Mexico, Martín Posse came in to join Tamudo up front and head home the only goal of the game in the first half. Keeper Argensó finally managed to keep a clean sheet for his side, who had the worst goals against record in the league before this match, with the Valladolid attack hardly creating any scoring chances in the 90 minutes. To add to their woes, the home side lost Fernando to an injury early in the first half, and with only one point from three home games they drop to within a point of the relegation zone.
