Celta just held on to their 13 game unbeaten league record thanks to a last minute equaliser from Mostovoi. The Gallician side came in to the match needing a win to go above their neighbours Deportivo and move back to the top the table. However they were frustrated by an efficient Valladolid side, with Ricardo superb in goal behind a back five who proved that the sale of Heinze and García Calvo in the summer has not weakened their line up. Víctor Fernández only made a couple of small changes despite an important UEFA cup tie midweek, with Luccin suspended and Juanfran rested, and Eusebio started the game for Valladolid, surpassing Sanchis's record number of Spanish league appearances for an outfielder.

Ricardo set out his stall in the first half with a great save from Catanha, but Cuauhtèmoc could also have scored for the visitors before the break. Then Tote struck for his fifth goal of the season, whipping the ball in to the corner of the net after the defence cleared two earlier shots. It took the on-loan Real Madrid striker to the top of the league's goalscorers charts, together with his opposite number Catanha, Diego Tristán and Olivera. Then Ricardo produced a one-man performance to stop everything thrown at him up until the last minute, when Cavallero's long free kick bounced through the defence to Mostovoi, who helped it in to the net with a header in off the post.
