Celta got their revenge for last year's cup final after defeating Zaragoza 2-0. Words had been exchanged in the pre-match build up between Víctor Fernández and Txetxu Rojo, and the two managers deliberately avoided each other throughout the game. Both had made changes to their sides, with Fernández having to make do without the suspended Berizzo and Karpin, and Rojo leaving Juanele back at home and making sweeping changes, including to his formation, after losing the last two games. It looked as if the modifications had worked immediately as Vellisca turned Galletti's cross past Cavallero, but referee Megia Dávila disallowed the goal for a clear offside. Only three minutes later though Celta were in front, Catanha 'the crab' once again in the right place to tuck the ball away for his eighth league goal of the season after Juanmi could only push out a shot from Juanfran.

For most of the first half the home side were on top, with Vagner for once putting in a fine performance bringing a good save out of Juanmi, and the keeper also blocking efforts from Mostovoi and Jesuli. Then just before the break Megia awarded a penalty to the visitors for a foul by Cáceres on Yordi, but Cavallero, advised by ex Zaragoza player Gustavo López, dived the right way to save Aragón's spot kick. Gustavo himself came on for Catanha midway through the second half, and he celebrated his return after injury scoring the second goal with a low shot from outside of the area after a short free kick. Yordi rounded off a bad night for the visitors wasting a couple of good chances, and Rojo's side slip down the table once again to sixteenth, now only two points above the drop zone. Celta rise up to fifth, and seem to have put their brief crisis behind them now that Mostovoi is back in the fold.
