Málaga kept up their five match unbeaten run in the new year, albeit with their fourth draw in five games, sharing the points after finishing 1-1 against Las Palmas. It was a poor performance though by the home side, with the visitors clearly looking for a point right from the start, sitting back in their own half and waiting for the counterattack. Within nine minutes the Canary Islanders got an early reward, although it was not quite the way they expected, Fernando Sanz turning the ball past his own keeper after a cross in from the right. With the front two of Darío Silva and Dely Valdés not at their best, the crowd started to get at their own side, and there were catcalls and whistles from the home fans at the break.

Peiró brought on Zárate for the second half, and he at least contributed some new ideas. Las Palmas keeper Nacho González almost gave a goal away when he went walk about outside of his area, but Darío Silva was lost for what to do once he got past him. A few minutes later Contreras was called upon to save from Jorge and then Pablo Lago on dangerous breakaways by the visitors, but eventually Málaga drew level, Zárate heading on Edgar's corner for Musampa to finish off on the far post. The game got harder after that, with Samways a rock (with hard boots) in the middle of the field. Carmona Méndez left the hosts with nine men after sending off Miguel Angel and then Darío Silva for second bookable offences near the end, and with Litos and Romero for Málaga and Angel, Schurrer and Orlando for Las Palmas all picking up their fifth yellow cards of their current cycles, no less than seven players will be missing from their respective sides next Wednesday.
