Sevilla and Palmas drew 1-1 in a match which both needed to win to ensure their stay in the top flight for next season. Sevilla had gone six games without a win before this match, and Joaquín Caparrós brought back two of his most exciting youngsters, Gallardo and Reyes, with Toedtli keeping his place up front after his goal the week before. Fernando Vázquez was missing his suspended midfield general Vinny Samways, and with Paqui and Josico both failing last minute fitness tests Jaime Quesada and Alberto came in for a rare start. The Sevilla youngsters started enthusiastically, and Toedtli and Alfaro both came close with headers early on. The Canary islanders had their chances too though, with Pablo Lago and Alberto both testing Notario, and Orlando got the ball in the net only to see it ruled out as Lago had handled the ball in the play leading up to the goal.

Sevilla took the lead though ten minutes before the break when Toedtli turned in a low cross by Gallardo, and Reyes wasted a chance to put his side further ahead immediately after the restart. But then Orlando got his goal a few minutes later with a well struck free kick to make it all square. Las Palmas' young keeper Quintana made a point blank save from Toedtli, but Sevilla's challenge faded when Fredi was sent off for a second booking five minutes from full time, and substitutes Tevenet and Rubén almost stole away the three points right at the end. Both sides though are still in the relegation battle, Las Palmas two points above the drop zone in fifteenth place and Sevilla two points above them in twelfth.
