Atlético
Madrid moved a point clear at the top of the second division with a 1-2
victory at Numancia. Pacheta almost gave the home side the lead with a
shot against the post, but soon afterwards Diego Alonso put the visitors into
the lead from a Stankovic corner. Numancia were reduced to ten men a quarter of
an hour from the end when Iñaki was given a direct red card, and
Aguilera got Atlético's second a few minutes later. Andrés Armada
got a consolation goal for the home side at the end to leave his side in the
middle of the table, and Stankovic was also red carded in the last minute for a
second bookable offence.
A young Oviedo side
missing the injured Oli moved up to second place with a 0-2 victory at
Recreativo. Both goals came in the second half, with Rubén
heading the first after Geni's effort was saved and Oscar Pérez curling
the second past the keeper near the end. The Asturian keeper Esteban (who was
in the Spanish squad last season) has only let in three goals in ten games and
his side are the only unbeaten team in the second divison. Recreativo were
playing their 1,000th game in the second division, and thet drop down the table
to eighth.
Bernd Schuster's Xerez
drop to third after losing 2-0 to Eibar. For once the Basque side
were the most adventurous as the Andalucians came looking for the draw, and ex
Real Sociedad striker Aldeondo was the star of the match, scoring the first
goal and setting up the second for Jorge Sánchez in a five minute period
before the break. Cañizares was sent off for the visitors after
receiving a second caution after the break, and their keeper Luis García
was forced to make some good saves to keep the scoreline decent.
Racing Ferrol lost
out on the chance to go top of the table after losing at home 0-1 to
Jaén on Saturday night. The only goal of the game came from a
Chico header ten minutes in to the second half, and Pepelu should have made it
two a few minutes later. However Ferrol were unlucky to see two long shots
bounce off the crossbar near the end, and they stat fourth, albeit with a game
in hand. The result saves the head of Jaén's manager Francisco
López, who has been criticised by local fans after the Andalucian club
had dropped to within a place of the relegation zone.
Burgos draw level
with Ferrol on 17 points after drawing 0-0 away at Leganés, also
on Saturday evening. They should have won the game easily though, with the home
side keeper Raúl making some spectacular saves, and Cuyami in particular
missing a couple of chances. Leganés did not get a shot on target until
the second half, and Isailovic had a goal ruled out for offside twenty minutes
from the end for the visitors. The local manager Ciriaco Cano was shown two
yellow cards by the referee near the end and had to leave the touchline.
Salamanca lost an
opportunity to close up on the top spots when they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Extremadura. Both sides had their chances, with Renaldo going close and
Moreno hitting the bar from a free kick for the visitors in the first half, and
Makukula (being watched by several big clubs) heading against the post for the
home side after the interval. Extremadura's Camerooni international defender
Kalla was stretchered off near the end.
This was Salamanca's fourth
draw in a row, and they stay in sixth place, level with Recreativo and
Albacete, who moved up the table after a narrow 1-0 victory over
Murcia. Basti hit the post for the Manchegans before Jesús Pereda
headed the only goal of the game past Reinke in the second half from a corner.
Loreto almost equalised for the visitors with a shot just over the bar near the
end.
Córdoba moved
back up the table after a couple of disappointing results with a good 3-0
victory over Elche on Saturday. Their first two goals came from Lawal,
the first after he held off four players to score and the second a long shot
from outside of the area. The young Nigerian is currently on loan from
Atlético Madrid, who was only just brought in to the side for this
match. Lawal also started the move which set up Brazilian Whelliton for the
third goal near the end, and both teams ended the day in the middle of the
table on 14 points.
They are still three points
ahead of Racing Santander though, who have still not recovered their
form under caretaker manager Quique Setién. They drew 1-1 at struggling
Levante, their fifth draw of the season. Sierra got Racing's first away
goal of the season early on, but Josemi controversially equalised from the
penalty spot after he himself was brought down. Regueiro hit the post from a
free kick for the Cantabrians after the restart, and both teams ended the day
with ten men after Racing's Juanma got himself sent off just after half time
and Levante's Peña followed him at the end. Levante stay in the
relegation zone, and manager Granero's days at the Valencia based club must be
coming to an end.
Bottom club Poli Ejido
got their first victory of the season to send their opponents Badajoz
down to last spot. Ejido keeper Marcos pushed a shot from Nieto against the
post in the second half, and Juan Jesús scored the only goal of the game
a quarter of an hour from the end to give them a much needed0-1 result. Badajoz
changed their owners and their manager during the week after a Portuguese
businessman bought them out, replacing Juanjo Díaz with Alhinho, but if
they are to achieve the stated target of promotion to the first division in
three years they have a long way to go.
Ejido move above
Gimnastic Tarragona, who came from behind to draw 1-1 at Sporting
Gijon. Villa gave the Asturians the lead in the first half, but after
Nástic had a goal disallowed, substitute Herrero headed home a corner
five minutes from time for a well earned point. |
