Málaga came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1 and join Valencia at the top of the table on maximum points. With Darío Silva suspended for two matches, Dely Valdés found himself partnering youngster Koke up front, but still should have done better when presented with a couple of chances early on. Peragón hit the bar at the other end, but then Dely Valdés wasted another great opportunity when Etxeberria dived to save his penalty kick after a foul by Corino. A few minutes later Rayo were in front, Contreras somehow letting Bolic's soft shot creep through his hands and roll into the net.

Dely Valdés finally got his reward though in the second half, picking up Valcarce's pass to beat Etxeberria from left of goal. And five minutes later the league's top scorer Musampa gave his side the victory with an angled shot. Fernando Vázquez brought on his 17 year old revelation Marqués and he almost saved a point with an injury time effort which Fernando Sanz cleared off the line with Contreras beaten. But the three points went to Málaga, who with their Intertoto cup victory have now been unbeaten in nine games this season.
