Celta drop to sixth in the table after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Osasuna. The Gallicians' manager Miguel Angel Lotina was up against the side he had been in charge of himself only a few months ago, but he was not able to put together the line up he wanted after the disciplinary committee deprived him of Berizzo and Luccin following the team's bust up with the referee after their last match at Betis. He was able to count on Sergio though, back in the starting line up for the first time this season after a long injury, and for tactical reasons he decided to switch his wingers, playing Gustavo López on the right and Edu on the left.

The visitors proved though that Lotina had done his work at Pamplona well, and with virtually the same line up that he had used last season they almost caught out their hosts early on. Cavallero had to be on top form to save from Aloisi in the opening minutes, and the Australian striker also put a header over the bar near the end of the first half. Iván Rosado wasted another chance when free in front of goal, meanwhile at the other end Méndez should have scored but he took his eyes off the ball and allowed it to hit him on the nose. Otherwise Celta's best effort during that time was a free kick by Mostovoi which went just wide of goal.

After the break Lotina switched back his two wide men, and things improved. However they came up against a Sanzol in top form , the keeper making two first class saves, the first from an Edu header and the second from Sylvinho's long free kick which he tipped on to the crossbar. By now Lotina was thinking of his team's midweek UEFA cup tie with Glasgow Celtic, and he decided to rest Catanha and Gustavo López, bringing on McCarthy and Jesuli. Aguirre's side held fast though, earning themselves a much needed point which takes them a little closer to escaping from the relegation spots.
