Recreativo Huelva recorded their first home win since their return to the first division, a result which takes them off the bottom of the table. This was their sixth league game in the Nuevo Colombino stadium, and despite having signed a new long term contract there was talk that Lucas Alcaraz could soon be on his way if his team did not start showing some form. The manager made six changes for this game, bringing back three of his more experienced players in defence and opting to play Luque in goal rather than Almunia to replace the suspended César.

Racing have gone off the boil since their impressive start to the season, but within three minutes they were in front, Pablo Sierra making the best of his return to the side by running on to a Javi Guerrero pass to round Alex and shoot past Luque. The home fans imagined they were in for another long night, especially when the referee turned down an appeal for a penalty when a Racing player handled in the area. But as the game wore on their side started to carve out some chances as the visitors back-peddled, and Xisco and then Bermejo brought good saves out of a secure Ceballos.

Time was running out though, and with six minutes to go Alcarez made one last throw of the dice and brought on Raúl Molina. It proved to be an inspired move, as within a minute the striker got ahead of his marker to turn Viqueira's long free kick past Ceballos for the equaliser. Then with the game running into injury time Molina was on hand again to meet Mario Bermejo's cross and place a header wide of Ceballos into the back of the net. The victory takes Recre off the bottom, above Espanyol who in fact by coincidence were the last team they beat at home in their only other spell in the first division back in June 1979. Racing are now only three points ahead of them in fifteenth place having only picked up one point in their last five games.
