An event packed game at the Montjuic stadium, where Betis ran out 2-4 winners over Espanyol to move up to fourth in the league. Capi put the Andalucians in front after good work by Fernando and Alfonso, and Juanito deflected Assunçao's free kick past Argensó for the second with only twenty minutes gone. Espanyol's Domoraud was sent off by referee Carmona Méndez for a high tackle on Alfonso, and Alfonso missed the easiest of chances after the restart to extend the lead when he waited too long and was closed down.

Numbers were evened up though when Joaquín was given a red card for pushing David García in the face, and the Catalans came back with goals by Roger and Milosevic to level the scores. A minute later though Fernando scored from a possible offside position, and before the end added another for the final result. Espanyol were left with nine men at the end when David García was sent off, Soldevilla also picked up a fifth yellow card of the season, and they ended the day back down in next to last place. Not a good day for Moya's side.
