Deportivo La Coruña could only draw 1-1 in their first ever game in the top flight against bottom club Recreativa Huelva and they lose ground on the leaders. The game started at a frantic pace, with Juanmi tipping a centre-come-shot by Javi García over the bar and Luque saving from Fran and Makaay at the other end. Midway through the first half the home side went in front, Cubillo finding Raúl Molina with a through ball for him to turn his shot wide of the keeper. The lead only lasted five minutes though before a defensive mistake gifted the ball to Diego Tristán on the edge of the area, who without hesitation fired a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The second half followed in the same vein, with Juanmi managing to save from Arpón and Molina, and a César header and a shot from Tristán causing some concern for the home team defence. Recre were left with ten men in the eightieth minute when substitute Xisco was sent off for a hard foul on Víctor only four minutes after coming on, and Irureta threw on Valerón to try and take advantage of the extra man. In the closing minutes Luque made a vital save from his namesake, and referee Esquinas Torres failed to spot a hand ball by the local captain Loren in the penalty area. Honours were shared. leaving Recre still at the bottom of the pack and Depor down in eighth place. Not a great night for either of them.
