A thrilling match at the Sardinero stadium, where Athletic Bilbao came from two goals down to defeat Racing Santander 3-4. Both sides started to create chances from the first minute, with Urzaiz heading over from an unmarked position and Regueiro waiting too long and allowing Lacruz to cut out his effort. With less than ten minutes on the clock the home side took the lead, Munitis winning a free kick outside the area and taking it himself, his low shot fooling Aranzubia as it rolled into the bottom corner of the net. Diego Mateo went close to increasing the lead before Racing won a penalty when Javi González pushed over Regueiro, Javi Guerrero converting the kick for the home side's second.

Bodipo wasted a couple of chances as the Cantabrians looked to win the game before the break, but it was the visitors who scored next, Moratón deflecting an Orbaiz corner past his own keeper in an attempt to clear. Racing restored the two goal cushion before the half time whistle though when Regueiro ran on to a long clearance by Sietes to lob the ball over the advancing Aranzubia. Shortly after the break Orbaiz left the field injured, and soon afterwards the unfortunate Moratón gave away another penalty when he brought down Tiko.

By now the visitors were getting on top, and Preciado ordered his team to sit back and defend their lead. However Joseba Etxeberría made it all square on the hour mark with a powerful shot after Ezquerro laid the ball back, and three minutes from the end he scored again, this time running on to Urzaiz's pass to lift the ball over Lemmens. Once again Racing had let it slip in the dying minutes, and Heyckes side move a point above them up to tenth position.
