Racing Santander moved out of the relegation zone after beating Alavés 2-0, ending their run of five defeats in a row. Controversial club president Dmitri Piterman was allowed to sit on the bench as team delegate, and there was a mixed reception from fans before the game, with some posters asking for his resignation and others thanking him for saving the club and wishing him luck. Together with his manager Chuchi Cos he has been making many changes to both line ups and tactics, and the side appeared to have assimilated these new ideas and were able to put in a more convincing performance. As the team came forward Juanma headed against the foot of the post following a corner, and a few minutes later Nafti opened the scoring with a long, dipping shot which caught Dutruel off his line. Alavés were disappointing, their only tactic the long ball looking for sole striker Rubén Navarro, and with three minutes to go Regueiro wrapped things up with a well taken second goal after Nafti put him through. Piterman looked a relieved man in the end.
