Deportivo La Coruña were held surprisingly to a 1-1 draw at home to Osasuna, and lose out on the chance to close up on the top spots. Both sides came in to the game having lost their respective "Copa del Rey" semi-finals, but as Irureta and Aguire had both used several reserve players for those matches the majority of players were well rested.

The visitors got off to the best start though, with an active Iván Rosado failing to make the best of his chances, and Juanmi had to make a couple of important saves to keep the scores level at the break. Within seconds of the restart though the local keeper gave away the first goal, jumping to catch Rivero's long cross with one hand and ending up losing his balance and dropping it at the feet of Muñoz for him to shoot into an empty net.

Depor's only effort for the next few minutes was a Héctor header over the bar, and Irureta decided to bring on Luque to strengthen the attack. However five minutes later his side were left with ten men after Diego Tristán was sent off for a second bookable offence, the striker's first red card of his career and also the first for a Depor player this season. Rather than drop back though the Gallicians came looking for an equaliser, and almost immediately Luque found the league's leading scorer Makaay with a cross from the left for him to turn the ball past Sanzol on the near post, his side's 1,500th goal in the top flight.

Irureta was criticised by the fans when he substituted Makaay two minutes from the end, although his replacement Capdevila almost sneaked a win when he headed a Sergio free kick against the bar. Just before that, numbers had been evened up when Rivero was shown the red card after getting booked for the second time. But there was no time left, and both sides had to settle for the draw.
