Villarreal recorded their second single goal victory in a row, this time against Valladolid, to move above their opponents and up to a heady eighth place in the table. Benito Floro's side got off to a good start, with Palermo rounding Torres Gómez but seeing Bizzarri get a hand to his shot to tip it over the bar in the tenth minute. A few minutes later Palermo won a penalty when Bizzarri brought him down in the area, and Jorge López stepped up to slot home his kick. Eventually the visitors woke up and Reina saved well from a long shot by Fernando Sales before the break. Oscar González hit the bar after the break and Reina made a couple of good saves after that to secure the three points for his side. Valladolid have now only taken one point from their six visits to the Madrigal stadium, and they drop down to tenth place.
