Racing Santander's revival continued under controversial president Dmitri Piterman, and they recorded their third win in a row, beating Villarreal 0-3 to rise up seven places in the table to tenth. All three goals came in the last twenty minutes of the game, with Moratón opening the scoring with a glancing header from a Munitis free kick.

Up to that point Benito Floro's side had dominated the match, with Arruabarrena, Guayre and Víctor all going close in the first half. However the goal forced the home side to open up, and as Floro threw on more and more attacking players, so they left gaps at the back. Lemmens made a great save from Jorge López when he broke free near the end, and in the last minute of normal time substitute Bodipo took advantage of the absence of defenders to collect a pass from Munitis and score the second.

Then with the game coming to a close it was Bodipo again who broke free on the left, and he passed across for Regueiro to make it three. A flattering result, and Racing's first win in the Madrigal stadium, but enough to convince observers that perhaps Piterman might just be able to live up to his words.
